Maybe I've been over by the corn at Cobras Field too much, but I
keep hearing this voice saying, "If you advertise it, they will
come." (Only my "field of dreams" has a frequency board!) *grin*
We have been trying to ramp up the
advertising for our Western Front Dawn Patrol event this year. I
thought some of you might like to know that our event will be
advertised in Model Aviation magazine starting with the June
issue. The ads run for 4 months. Since everyone who is a full
A.M.A. member gets this magazine, it seemed like a good place to
advertise.
We are continuing to build on the
relationships we've developed with local print media like the
Council Bluffs "Daily Nonpareil" newspaper, who were kind enough
to do an article about our event that ran several days before
WFDP 2008, as well as a picture spread that Sunday. We are
hoping to get a repeat performance this year.
We have had a detailed event notice posted
on RCUniverse.com for some time now, complete with links to
maps, flyers, etc. RCU is one of the busiest R/C websites
around, so we can be fairly certain of reaching a large number
of potential participants there.
We now have a banner ad on rcscalebuilder.com
that links to our event webpage, the idea being to raise
awareness of our event in the "scale" builders community. |
Since that particular website
targets those very people as its core demographic, it only made
sense to advertise there. (Their rates for event advertising
were quite reasonable.)
We also have event notices posted to
RCGroups.com, TheAerodrome.com,
and the user forums for WW1 Aero magazine and AerodromeRC
models. So as you can see, we have built a noticeable Web
presence.
We will be sending out event flyers to
A.M.A. chartered clubs in western Iowa and eastern Nebraska in
the near future. We also do our best to distribute flyers at
events we attend, and post them to hobby shops within driving
distance. And I know that Dale and Brian of the Arkansas Dawn
Patrol have been talking about our September event to all the
R/C guys they come in contact with down there. I've already
received inquiries from several R/Cers in Oklahoma.
(Word-of-mouth advertising is really the best kind of all.
Thanks, ya'll!)
As you can see, there has been considerable
effort made to get the word out about our little event. Last
year we had 30 registered pilots, and a flight line that made us
proud. It will be interesting to see what September brings us
this year. *Fingers crossed*
