I picked up the raffle prize for the 2010 WFDP event. We will be raffling off a Hangar 9 Fokker D.VII ARF.

       Specs are - Wingspan: 63 inches, Length: 50 inches, Weight: 8.5 to 9 pounds, Power: .61 two-stroke or .72-.91 four-stroke.

I've seen Harold Zimmerman's fly, and it does real well on the .91 Saito he has in it. In fact, I flew it briefly (including a deadstick landing - gotta love Saitos that aren't broken in yet!), and it was well behaved. It should make a fine "Sunday WW1 flyer" for someone, as it has the advantage of being an easily transportable size.

There will be other prizes as well, although probably not like the bonanza of previous years. As the economy has worsened, vendors have become a bit more stingy about giving stuff away for free.

Speaking of vendors, please join me in welcoming our newest event sponsor,
Whirlybird Aviation which will be attending our event as part of Vendor's Row. Joe Cole has assured me that there will be some goodies for giveaway purposes, in addition to his offering of autogyro short-kits and plans for sale.

I hope to see you all at the event. As hard as it is to believe, the weekend of September 18 and 19th is only about 3 weeks away. If you haven't already - mark your calendars!

The Dawn Patrol is a group of R/C model airplane enthusiasts who share a love of World War 1 aviation and aero-modeling. They enjoy mission-oriented flying at annual "Dawn Patrol" events, as well as at smaller informal gatherings of like-minded individuals. The purpose of the group is to have fun while promoting the WW1 aero-modeling part of the R/C flying hobby.

The "Western Front Dawn Patrol" is the R/C Dawn Patrol chapter for Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and northern Missouri. In conjunction with the Arkansas Dawn Patrol, the Hoosier Dawn Patrol, and other groups, it is intended to boost interest in our little niche of the R/C hobby.
